In Tune with the Spirit – June 06, 2001
Nearly 300 years ago, an English trumpeter invented the tuning fork—a remarkable device that, when struck, can produce a perfect tone and help musicians find standard pitch. But a curious thing happens when another tuning fork is held in an opposite corner of the room. The second fork responds to the vibrations of the first and begins to produce the same, perfect tone.
However, if the second fork is not in tune, the phenomenon will not occur. How often our Father in Heaven’s love and guidance radiate toward us, but we don’t yield to the inspiration because we’re not in tune. Instead, the communication washes over us without penetrating our souls, and is lost—like waves of sound without a receiver.
To stay in tune, we need an environment of calm—a moment when we can meditate upon our deepest feelings without distractions or “spiritual noise.” When we strip our minds of pride and pretense, baring our souls before One who already knows but is waiting for us to know ourselves, we can feel true inspiration.
Then, as we interact with others, we’ll resonate with the Spirit, and even transmit that spirituality to others. Our hearts will be pure, and those who are in tune will sense it, and be lifted by it.
