Daybreak Comes – Sunday, May 03, 1998
Life is rich with symbolism. If we look carefully, evidence of God’s love is all around us. The very passing of time—as night unfolds into dawn—reminds us that, even in our darkest hour, we can know that despair will not last forever and morning will surely come.
None of us eludes disappointment in this life. Sometimes our trials seem to roll over us as steadily as waves over sand. We suffer losses and setbacks, and we grieve with those we love.
Yet, just as God has balanced night with day, we can look for joy as vast as our sorrows. He has not left us in utter darkness. Just as sunlight bathes the Earth each morning, so will our Father in Heaven part the shadows and bring radiant light and comfort to gladden our hearts again. Thunder gives way to cleansing rain; clouds give way to rainbows. Winter warms into spring, and barren branches fill with blossoms and the promise of fruit to come.
Nature resounds with evidence that God is tending His garden and watching lovingly over His children. He has given the Spirit of Comfort to embrace us during times of need1 and is only a prayer away.
Through trials, we develop faith in God—faith that He is our caring friend to help us through the adversities of life. And, as we meet daily challenges, we acquire skills and knowledge. We gain perspective and learn which things matter most. We become more valuable to others as we now have the experience to help those with similar struggles. We discover that true joy comes through thinking of others before ourselves.
There will be nights of storm and darkness. There will be tears and aching hearts. But, as we watch the morning sky and turn our hearts to God, daybreak comes.
