The Light of Faith – April 01, 2001
Within each soul is the light of faith. If followed, this light can lead us in the way of possibility and promise. But if ignored, we may wander aimlessly, without direction or purpose.
Whenever fear, anger, or doubt takes possession of our souls, the light of faith cannot shine. If, however, we pursue a righteous path, humbling ourselves before God, our eyes will be opened. We’ll see hope where we saw despair. We’ll see possibilities rather than limitations.
During the dark days of World War II, a young Frenchman, though blinded as a child, led more than 600 youth in an underground resistance movement. With courage that comes only from God, he fervently prayed and worked for the cause of freedom. He often spoke of an inner light that led him. He explained: “There were times when the light faded, almost to the point of disappearing. It happened every time I was afraid.”1 He could’ve given in to his fears. He could’ve rationalized apathy. Instead, it was he—a blind man—who walked by faith. And so can we.
Each of us seeks a heavenly home. Each of us prizes liberty. Only by following the Lord, the Light of the World, will we have faith to see through the fogs of mortality and find our way back home.
